In 1927, Jeanne Lanvin travelled to Venice, where she discovered the Bevilacqua weaving mill. Founded in 1875, the atelier is renowned for its exceptional velvets and centuries-old textile artistry. Among its fabrics, Jeanne acquired a precious lamé velvet, carrying a fragment of Venetian craftsmanship back to Paris.

The very fabric Jeanne selected has been preserved ever since, in her office. It bears witness to a 500-year-old Venetian tradition, created and perpetuated by the Bevilacqua atelier through generations of exceptional craftsmanship, with just 35 centimeters handmade each day — a testament to the patience and rarity inherent to this savoir-faire.

For Autumn Winter 2026, Peter Copping revisits this extraordinary piece of Lanvin history, working once again with the Bevilacqua atelier. The Pigna pattern and leopard velvet are brought into the collection, produced in the atelier’s mechanical mill with the same exacting attention. Just six meters are made each day, and only 30 pieces have been developed worldwide — rare expressions of a dialogue between Jeanne Lanvin’s legacy and a contemporary vision.
